"Beat The Market" clones

Background

Some years ago I built a stock day trading video game called "Beat The Market". It was an online stock trading game with purely simulated money and stock instruments. Of course the goal was to buy low, sell high, and make as much profit as possible. The game collected some users through a few online ads, and announcements I made on forums. I fondly remember one user even consistently beating my best games, lol.

At one point, I did have an angel investor inquire about investing in the project. But that would have required a rewrite of the software to put more focus on collecting and tracking as much user data as possible. At the time, I didn't have the energy or nerve to take another year to rewrite and relaunch the game, only this time as a proper startup.

State of Play

Well that seems to have been a mistake. I've noticed that there have since been a few copy cats released. All "Beat The Market" clones, with slightly modified names.

Learnings

I suppose this is my fault for not sticking to my guns. Sigh... the takeaway for me, therefore is to better trust my own analysis and ideas that I think will stick. Basically just to trust my gut.

And never say never... While I haven't had the time to rerelease the original, there's a few other projects I want to complete.

And I don't know if or when "Beat The Market" will ever have time to fit into that mix. It's a nice validation of the idea though.

And that this is a stark reminder that life only happens once. And that you'll miss every single shot that you don't take. Carpe diem!
